How it Started
UAZ Buhanka Rental was started with a love of authenticity and a dream to travel independently to the most remote places in Kyrgyzstan. The classic UAZ Buhanka was our 4x4 of choice to turn into a camper van. With its large interior, solid axels and manual 5 speed transmission it was a perfect 4x4 for the rough road in Kyrgyzstan.
Founders
UAZ Buhanka Rental is managed by Alex and Vlad. Who both love traveling and sharing their love of Kyrgyzstan with travelers. Alex is originally from the United States and Vlad is a local from Bishkek. Together they have years of experience helping travelers plan their trip across Kyrgyzstan and answer any question travelers might have along the way.

About UAZ Buhanka
Van Specifications
- Size: The van measures 1.9 meters wide and 4.3 meters long. It is a large 4x4 vehicle, so be sure to make wide turns.
- Handling: The van is top-heavy, avoid fast turns to maintain stability.
Tire Pressure
- Main Asphalt Roads: 2.3 bars
- Rough Gravel Roads: 1.8 bars
- An air compressor is provided — please use it to adjust pressure as needed.
Engine
- The engine requires 10W-40 engine oil.
- If you notice oil leaking from the van, please inform us immediately.
Doors
- Ensure all doors close flush with the van body.
- Back doors should be closed tightly and locked while driving.
- Be gentle — door handles are not very sturdy.
Electrical System
- Extra fuses are located in the glove box.
- Fuse box location: passenger side, under the glove box.
- Check the fuses or take the van to a shop for assistance.
Engine Lights
- It is normal for the check engine light to turn on if you use 92 weight gas or if the fuel quality is subpar.
- The ABS light may occasionally turn on and off; this is usually caused by dust in front of the sensor and is not a cause for concern.
